[English below]

On March 8th, at 3:00 p.m., a short anthology of mine will be presented in the writers studio located at the Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht: What am I now but silence – Ghosts’ stories.

The stories and poems in this anthology stem from a question I posed to the people around me: ‘Have you ever seen a ghost?’

Whether I, or the person whom I was talking to, believed in those ghosts didn’t matter – I was curious about the stories. I got what I asked for: a ghost in a Korean hospital, an apparition in a Dutch bedroom, a demon in an Argentinean closet…

The people who entrusted me with their ghost stories were surprised, startled or amused. It made me wonder: how would ghosts experience these encounters? Nevertheless, the question ‘is it real’ or ‘do you believe in this’ doesn’t really matter. The story as a given, but also as a literary construction – where you can even empathize with a chair leg, if needed – is what truly matters.

I rewrote those anecdotes (excellent story form) into stories and poems from the perspective of the ghosts.

To gleefully celebrate the story itself. To have it be told once more, listened to, with shivers down your spine, amazed, and that this really still keeps happening and will continue to do so, casually or purposefully, everywhere around the world.
